hello, I recently registered my domain paying extra to keep my information private. My question is...can someone find out that I own the website built on that domain, if so how can they find out? I know there probably is some drug out legal way, but what about a quick internet search? thanks in advance Wink

You can check with whois

If you registered privately, the private registrar will show instead of your info

That would be the standard way anybody would research ownership of your domain - I don't know if there are others

Private registration should mean exactly that otherwise there is no point in paying the extra to purchase it.

Your details would be pretty safe i would say.

Lots of domain name registrars Enom.com, Sibername.com, directi.com etc is giving that for free. But be sure if you are doing something wrong or against the law your invo will be given out to the FBI or etc.

Hi and thanks...nothing illeagal, but i have written things on a website that would make certain people upset. i guess it might be a liable issue. but what i have posted on my site is public information...it is just that some people don't want the info known...and I feel the info should be known.

It sounds to me that you are crossing on a fine line.

If you have the owner information hidden then it is believed that no person without authority would not be able to access such details but i also believe that private instigators, police, govenment and military would be able to access the information.

I hope that this information is helpful,

Best of luck,
Mike
