Where can I register .com, .net and .org domains without having to pay any money upfront. (i.e I am given a month to pay for the domain)

You won't find anyone who will let you do that, unless you open a business/credit account with someone. Bear in mind that if you are buying a domain that cost $17, that company has to make money somewhere, and accepting any other forms of payment usually cost a lot more.

The company also has the added risk of not receiving payment, yet already given the domain and domains are very hard to reverse register.

networksolutions and namezero allow you to do this, but beware, there are some strings. Namezero has a horridly large ad frame, and they own the domain, not you (for at least the first year I think, check site for details), and you'll have to chekc the netsol site for details about their offer and I can't remember it right now.

My suggestions, spend the money in advance if you can, no games, no strings.

Just use 00domains.com, dotster.com, or gandi.net. They come so cheap these days, it would be easier to just pay the small fees upfront versus going through the chaos trying to not pay up front could cause.

I know its a couple days since the last post...

But check out http://www.onestep.net 1yr=$11 2yrs=$24, etc

They don't require $$ upfront... you can send them $$ via check, etc. But your domain isn't active until its paid for.

Hope I could help some.

While that "unofficial Pearl something-or-other" page *is* quite interesting, I believe the URL that rockergrrl meant to put was: http://onestop.net

I thought I read something about them (wasn't something good), but I would have to dig around. It was recent, but I can't remember if it was a big issue or not.

Yep, OneStop will let you do this, and they are quite good because they are an OpenSRS reseller (excellent company). I know most hosts will also do this for you, and just put it on your bill or whatever.

I don't believe Network Solutions allows you to register a domain and then pay anymore. I think they only accept Credit Cards...

Well they have/had some 90 day deal. It is/was very recent, but I never bother/bothered to check it out.

Ah yes, chicken is right. You can find out about it at NameDemo (www.namedemo.com).

I'm reading DomainZero right now, and it actually looks good. It's registered in your name, no banners, and the company is traded on the stock market. Let me tell you how they make money...

Quote:
All we ask is that domain registrants agree to a minimum number of money-saving
offers from our clients on everything from air travel to office supplies. The offers are
presented via e-mail to the registrants once the registration process is complete.
DomainZero.com pays all domain registration fees, but we are not the registrar.
Registrants keep and own all rights to each domain name they register for one (1)
year, with an option for FREE renewal upon expiration when they return to DomainZero.com.

Yeah I read that...
to me, right now, its better than nothing.. Smiling

For me, personally, paying for the domain isn't an option. I recently had a baby in February and all my $$ that could be set a side for stuff like that, is going to the baby. Smiling

And especially since only one service - onestop.net - that accepts money orders (I don't have a working credit card) and isn't $70... Smiling And from what I heard the quality is debatable.

I'd be willing do do little stuff in order to get a free domain... I dunno... I registered a dumby domain and I'm going to see what its like before I register a good one. Smiling

Only time will tell.. Smiling

Tell us how it works. But here's a clip from their FAQ...

Quote:
4. Can I have more than one free domain name? How many do I get?
Not currently. In the future you may be notified by email of an opportunity to recieve more free domains by accepting more promotional sponsorships. Currently however, a limit of one domain name per user has been instated.

Too bad you didn't read that before you registered the dumby domain...

I used them...
NO Banners
NO Ads
NO Frames
You can change your nameservers to whatever you want...

Its just like if you were to go to any other domain registrar...

rockergrrl, just a few questions. Do you receive much email from their advertisers? and is it actually necessary to read through and order a certain number of advertised products, or can you just delete the advertisments?

Well
I haven't received any email yet... and its been almost a week...

I'm sure you can delete them....
of if you don't want them on your regular account, just use a hotmail or a free account that you hardly use or just registered for that purpose...

I know others from the freewebspace.net board that have gotten emails..... and just deleted most of them - if not all of them. From what I heard, there's not link you have to click in order to say you read the email.

Luckily, you don't have to buy anything from the advertisers, "Just consider them" (as they say on their website).

infoDNS (http://www.infodns.com/) will take your registration online and hold the domain until they receive payment then send it through. You can pay using PayPal with them which allows for credit cards or you can take funds from your checking accounts directly all online.

The other benefit is they are only $25/yr.

omni please do not advertise your own services on our boards. Thank you.

Also, a few people I know have sucessfully registered a domain with DomainZero (www.domainzero.com), so it seems like they are for real...
