Registered users & forms
Hi Again,
I want to set up my site so that only registered users can fill in the forms there.
1) how do I set up a user registration that assigns a unique number to each user?
2) When a registered user fills out a form how does it check that it is a "Real" registered user?
3) Is there anything else I need to know ?
Thanks again, everyone has been really great with their help and I am learning so much, I only hope that in a few months I will be able to help others.
Tony
Before you criticise someone walk a mile in their shoes......
Then, if they don't like what you say they are 1 mile away and barefoot.

You must do this server side.
The concept...
you will most likely have a list of usernames/passwords (right?) or some other means of validation material.
Have the visitor enter his 'stuff', and submit it.
Then, on the server, check it against your list of valid usernames and passwords.
If there is a match, send them along. If there is no match, tell the visitor that they entered an invalid username/password, and allow them to try again. (or just boot them out to disney.com)
The language you use to do this (Perl,PHP,ASP, etc.) will depend on the server you run this on. Also, you have a choice of using a real databse (Access, mySQl, SQL Server 7, etc.) or a flat file.
Let me know what you have and need, and I will forward this thread to the appropriate forum(s).
