Hi guys, I'll keep this short.. I swapped my co.uk domain for a .com, and have a question...

Which would be a better long-term domain in terms of memorability, relevance and and SEO?

In general, which would perform better as an all-round website?

www.songzilla.co.uk or www.songzillamusic.com ?

I would appreciate your theories aswel as hard facts Smiling

Thanks in advance.

Well, the .co.uk is only going to be familiar and memorable to people in the UK. Which might be better if that's the audience you want to target. It will also help you rank better on Google UK.

With the .com the domain will be more memorable to worldwide audiences. From an SEO perspective you might do a bit better in Google.com, but still lost in the masses of all the US and other .com sites. There's probably no SEO advantage there.

Those are just my theories Smiling

Megan is spot on. As an example one of my sites which is .com is ranked page
one on google.com but the co.uk version is on page five, in the UK the .co.uk
version is page one and the .com I can't even find in the first six pages.

Thing is I believe most use .com to do their searching and would therefore try to use .com
to get more traffic unless you wish to remain very UK specific.

Thanks for the info. Smiling

It’s depends upon your targeted audience because if you want to do business in only local area then .uk is the best but want to do business and expect that it will be popular in all over the world then .com is the best option .

If you are going to target your website only for UK region then, co.uk will be fine. But talking about global target, .com will be favourable.

A domain should always be short and precise. So I think first domain will be a better choice.

.com is more "universal" than .co.uk
but smaller domain name is easier to remember.

Depends on location and who you are targetting. Niche is also ver important. .COM are very popular and when working with a general niche catering to the masses, go with it.

I am agree with Jeanneluv. Sure, .com is universal than .co.uk
but it depends on your location and what you're going to target. Factors should be wildly taking into account.

if you are targeting uk audience then you should go for .co.uk domain but if you are targeting global audience then stick for .com. but If you already created links for .co.uk domain then dont change your domain.

Thanks guys for all the replies Smiling I decided to go with songrepo.com, as it is definately gonna be a global thing. 1 month into its life, and it's getting several hundred visitors per day. Not bad for a few weeks work Smiling

Thanks again, everyone! =]
