Where to Host Blogs?

I'd like to ask bloggers about the type of hosting they use to host blogs, and namely whether they go for specialized blog hosting services or just get a shared hosting plan.
Are there any minuses of going with a plan of this type?

This looks like a good deal with smart features - I see it is easy to install WordPress, Drupal, Joomla (hiss) etc. with Fantastico script support.

You could find shared hosting a little cheaper like lunarpages which also has Fantastico blog script installation - and very good reviews.

downtownhost's price for domain registration is a little high $15 - can you register elsewhere or do they require you register through them?

I looked on web hosting unleashed but there are no reviews yet for downtownhost, I guess they are pretty new.

I would say if they have the features you want, try them out, they have a 30 day money back guarantee, right?

Another option is to sign up for a free blog at WordPress.com - they say they host over 3,000,000 blogs!

Happy Blogging!

I would discourage the use of Fantastico for installing scripts. Drupal is one of the projects that openly complains about Fantastico, and I'm sure that the problems come with any script it installs.

I think your best option is a Wordpress.com or Blogger account. Only use a shard hosting account with your own installation if you are savvy enough to install it yourself (or have someone else do it for you).

Thaks, what are the minuses of using a free account at Wordpress?

Mostly that you don't have full control over the plugins, and you can't make changes to the codebase of your site. I'm pretty sure you can use any theme, but I might be wrong. I've never used it.

I have seen that SiberName.com provides different software for blogs: b2evolution, Nucleus and WordPress.
Which one is more preferable?

b2evolution has a pretty powerful semi-multi-blog set-up. So powerful I haven't been able to really figure out how it works.

Nucleus used to be pretty decent, but development has dwindled a lot lately. (Almost a year with no updates.) I don't think I'd start off with them.

WordPress is the Wal-Mart of the blogging world. It's everywhere and you can get what you need out of it.

A completely redesigned user interface It's easy to install and easy to get started. Get an at-a-glance summary of your blogging activity from content to contributors on our new dashboard. Expanded options for archiving and displaying content.

Textpattern

When it comes to publishing on the internet, beginners and experts alike are met with a bothersome paradox: word processors and graphics applications allow anyone to do a pretty good job of managing text and images on a personal computer, but to make these available to the worldwide web a seemingly similar environment of documents and destinations ease of use vanishes behind sudden requirements for multilingual programming skills, proficiency in computer-based graphic design, and, ultimately, the patience of a saint. Those who soldier on anyway may find themselves further held back by the web's purported inflexibility with written language, with its reluctance to cope with all but the plainest of text, or by the unpredictable results brought about by using WYSIWYG web editors. Textpattern is a web application designed to help overcome these and other hurdles to publishing.

b2evolution

b2evolution is a powerful blog tool you can install on your own website. It includes all the features of traditional blog tools, and extends them with evolved features such as file & photo management, advanced skinning, multiple blogs support as well as detailed user permissions... Not to mention third party plug-ins!

I suppose there is no psrtivcular need in the blog hosting package namely, because it is possible to host a blog or a forum at almost any shared hosting package.

I can also vote for Webhostgiant.com - their plans are designed for hosting blogs forums and galleries. Surely not only for them. They have one of the lowest prices on the market. I think there is a sence in looking up, surel;y if you didn't get a hosting yet.

Bluehost or Hostgator would be great. Just search for reviews from web hosting forum so you can decide well. If you're not using any large files such as images or videos or any media, you can have the cheapest shared plan on any webhost.

As long as your host meets the requirement of your blog software it should be the same regardless of what they specialize in. A dedicated blog host is still a web hosting provider but they are trying to corner a specific niche. Im sure they offer they same exact product as other hosts but just have worded their service differently.
