new to BlueHost ... bye-bye StartLogic
I know I have been bashing hosting startups here, but I am allowed to be cranky because StartLogic has made my life hell for the past 4 months.
I just signed up with BlueHost - the clincher, from the main page I opened live chat and there was a person there in 10 seconds, very knowledgeable and helpful, answered all my questions with the right answers and I'm in.
Meanwhile I was waiting for StartLogic to explain why my main client's test site was not connecting to the db and I could not access the db from phpmyadmin (and they refused to let me use NaviCat) but the db is there, I can see it but somehow they changed the pw? And I was waiting for over 20 minutes for "Live Chat" after sending 2 emails and of course the cp ticket submission form did not work either....
Basically it came down to choosing lunarpages or BlueHost... I read the reviews carefully - lunarpages customers raved about support but BlueHost customers commented specifically on service and speed - for Drupal and other sql intensive apps, that is my primary concern, as long as stuff works, I don't need no hand holding.
And my two contacts with BlueHost presale were very positive - the chat today and a previous email asking them if a page with 10 small images (like div frames and buttons) and about 10 sql requests would take 3-4 minutes to load as is common at StartLogic. BlueHost is proud of their "3 oc 48 backbone connections" and promised me pages load in seconds not minutes.

Good luck with Bluehost, hope to hear your update soon.
I'm really surprised to get these kind of reviews about StartLogic, usually the reviews are positive.
But there are always chances to get into the number of dissatisfied clients, you may get around 14 300 results if you type in "Bluehost sucks" into the Google bar.

I sent StartLogic a link to the Drupal thread I started "Is StartLogic Slow?" and they are still telling me it might be my code.
My main client's test site database password was changed by SL and I cannot connect to it (I am moving their test sites back to their server on RackSpace so I do not really need this test db) but it is frustrating, I was in the middle of coding a complex multi-table sql operation.
Will keep you posted about further adventures in budget shared hosting.

Hope bluehost works out for you.
There are 170 other website sharing your IP and your site seems to run ok. If it always runs ok then I guess they have a good enough setup.

I had one problem with BlueHost, not a deal breaker but very annoying
At my previous host (using Vdeck) I had a few directories in my home/public_html dir with separate sites. One was my site and I pointed my domain there and had no problems with the other sites in subdomains.
At BH using cPanel, they advised me to use some .htaccess mumbo jumbo to
redirect from public_html to the subdir with my site. It was similar if not identical to some .htaccess code I found on the drupal.org site
It didn't work too well. Links would open in a url placing the directory inside itself (eg http://netsperience.org/netsperience/...) my css didn't work my Gallery2 didn't work it was a mess. The subdomains, however, worked fine.
It appeared that BH actually did point the DNS to home/netspereince/ but ALSO to home/ by default, if that is possible. BlueHost support
told me they cannot point the DNS anywhere except public_html
Again consulting drupal.org I decided best solution was to move my site to the home/public_html dir and it all works fine now.
I do not like having subdomains in dirs within my site but that is the way it is.
At BH this was achieved without .htaccess - when I asked them for a recipe, they noted "your domain is no longer hosted with us, ask your current web host" - yeah, FU too!
Actually, BH is a bit slower overall than the fastest loads at StartLogic, but overall pretty consistent and bearable. I am not using any caching or performance settings on Drupal sites in dev (including my own), and my site with a few flash widgets etc loads in about 15-20 seconds. Other sites in dev that are simpler load a bit quicker.
I have noticed on BH that the first handshake happens quickly (on SL I would sit and wait for 30-60-90-120 seconds just for that first handshake) but it will sometimes stall for a few seconds when about 90% done, not sure why. At SL once the packets started flowing, the process would complete in 10-15 secs without a pause.
