HELP - WHO TO REGISTER DOMAIN NAME & HOST WITH???

Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to read my posting - I'm new round here and need some advice...

I want to register and build my own website and have been looking at the various options to register and host sites and there are just so many options.

I would like to register both .com and .co.uk and then look into hosting.

There are so many different companies out there who offer registration, but which ones are worth going with???

Is it best to register with a British company, or save money with one in the US?

Do I own the domain outright?

When I come to renew the domain will they charge me an extortionate amount to do so??

Freenetname looks like a great deal but does not do .com only .co.uk.

If anyone could advise or recommend some good deals it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again.

We have had good success with Namesco (see link in upper-right area). They are a UK company and offer hosting and domain name registration.

You will own the domain outright, and they will not charge you a huge renewal fee. The renewal fee (I thnk) is usually the same as the original purchase fee. The only thing that might cost a bit more is if you wanted to transfer it to another company.

If you want to register your domain name and to be yours just pay for it , dont buy hosting plans with free domain names because it will not worth it. buy the domain and you tranfer your domain name wherever you want.

Like buying British beef, buy British hosting! Wink

But seriously, this site is hosted with NamesCo and we haven't had a problem with them. I also, personally, have two other sites hosted by them and likewise: The service has been great! Smiling

I have a lot of names with Godaddy. They have great prices. Only downside are you have to call a regular long distance number for support and they try to upsell you out the yin-yang.

It all depends on what you want...if you're looking for a site that won't shut down and force you to change registrars, go with a big company like GoDaddy.com
If you want good support, GoDaddy, is not the way to go.

I personally like 1and1.com myself...not expensive, yet reliable.

GoDaddy.com is without a doubt, my best hosting experience. It has great service, and even better prices! I use GoDaddy to host all three of my sites!
