TWF move to new server! - Please read - Important!
Actually, the servers are located no where near Vernal. ... In fact, they are actually further away from SLC or Vernal now than they were before. I honestly don't know how the speed changed, but the hops we take from our ISP to the servers are three less now. The bad thing is, we have to travel over the SprintLink backbone to get there. They aren't connected to the facility in any way, but they take us there.
The connections on the previous facility and the new facility are pretty much the same. We still have access to multiple OC-3 lines running in and out, as well as T-3, DS3, and T-1 lines.
On a side-note, I didn't know you were in SLC Sergiob. Ever been to this mild town?

OK, the move is done... A couple things have been adjusted as well. The time for the forums is no longer WAY off. They are now on time (EST). Further, e-mail functions should once again work (JP).
If you have problems posting to any of the forums, please post here (as I know this forum now lets you post) and we will fix the problem ASAP. I don't see any problems though.

Ok well, I still think the script is loading a little faster but that could be just my own impression.
but I am not even from the States. Is it kind of warmer there? because here is getting chilli! 
About Vernal, no I have never been there. I had to ask my wife (who is Utahn) exactly where the town was. Sorry my ignorance

Well... It is 2:13 in the morning here in Salt Lake City, UT and I feel the forums are responding way much faster. Whatever you did Chad makes the server respond really fast (pages load faster than before).
Dids.com is just miles away from here (vernal, UT). Could anyone far away (like in Europe) feel the difference? or is just me?

This is a FYI post. TWF will be taken offline today for no more than an hour. The site will be taken offline at 3:15 AM (TWF time in the weeee morning hours so to be as little of a inconvenience as possible). We are taking the site offline completely so that we don't loose any posts or new members profiles. The site will come back online at approximately 3:30 AM if all goes well with a link to the new server while NSI updates the records.
Sorry for the inconvenience but tis part of upgrading. I also apologize for the post as I know this is not the Dynamic Internet Solutions Support Forums but I felt it was appropriate.

i may add that TWF stalled here when i tried to read a post
but after changing IP adresses to domain-name in the setup it seemed to be fixed. did anybody perceive the same? might just be a local DNS-problem here at the moment.

Hi,
I noticed a significant increase in loading speed, too. From Germany! My provider uses the t-online backbone. The trace shows it uses t-online servers until Pennsylvania and then it shows 3 steps @ iconnet.net, then one @ vdi.net, and then webmaster-forums.com.

Looks like the move was a good thing
Our servers are located in the VDI facility now. The connection is very solid, with only two downtime instances, both due to "unstoppable" circumstances (one was Hurricane Floyd and the other was a power outage that shutdown power grids in New Jersey and three surrounding states).
Where are you located John?
I know a lot of our clients have asked why we located the servers on the West coast and they fealt that that would slow services down for Internatioanl clients, opposed to locating them on the East coast which was physically closer. That honestly should not matter and I really don't think it does.
We have boasted that we were in the same facility as MAE-WEST for quite some time... Let me tell you now that if you find a host that boasts that, run the other way. The MAE-WEST maintainers constantly "pull" IP blocks and screw up 512 sites at once (it screws up two IP blocks when they do so) making HUGE problems. Further, because MAE-WEST is the MAJOR routing point for all West coast AND West to East coast traffic, router speeds there were terrible. Not to mention the overclogged lines from too many hosts/servers located there.
We actually thought about using above.net as they have a very solid and reliable connection but decided to go with VDI because we have heard a lot of good things about them... So, we started testing four months ago and things were extremely stable. The NOC is nice and lines definitly are not over-crowded here, yet (hoping that doesn't happen). Like I said, we have pretty much the exact same connection here that we had in the San Jose facility.
I am extremely excited that things are speeding up... I think we made the right choice
