I know! I was just going to post this topic, now! This site is ALWAYS down, so is dids.com. Do you co-host dids.com or have your own servers?

My site is hosted by dids, and it was also down, but it was not their fault at all. From what I have been told, the QWest connections have been having problems over the past little while.

Matt, maybe you visit during periods of time when I do not (ie- 12 AM to 7 AM?) but I have not noticed the site 'ALWAYS' down.

Yep- TWF is on a shared server hosted by DIDS. But it wasn't their fault, it was QWEST. Alot of servers were down because of the high speed connections QWEST offers. For some reason they wern't working.

Hi guys,

It was indeed a Qwest network problem. They had a border router go out yesterday that took all of VDI offline and caused hell for a number of East coast web hosts, NOCs, and corporations.

The servers aren't at fault here, at all. Our servers have been doing really well. We just need to get a solid connection to back that up, which is in the works.

Matt, contrary to what you think/experience, the site is up the majority of the time. I hardly ever have a problem getting to it (and I am in Utah while the servers are in New Jersey so I feel bumps when they are there just as much as anyone else). We do co-locate our servers at the VDI facility - didn't know anything was wrong with that? The majority of hosts co-locate. If we had 2 or 3 million to spend on our own data center, we would have one.

Anyway, the router went down last night at 6:00 PM MNT and was back online 10:00 MNT this morning - it took a while for things to get caught up again though so there was timeouts and delays until about noon today.

I just want to make it clear that our servers (what we have control of) were NOT at fault here.

Maybe DIDS could use an additonal high speed provider, to ensure that everything doesn't stand still if Qwest have problems. Betting all your cards on one provider seem dangerous.

Oh, okay. Sorry, I didn't mean it was ALWAYS down, but it is sure down a lot. It has been working fine now for the last few days though.

Elm,

That isn't in our control. We don't own the NOC and until recently, that was the case. I agree with you but it isn't at our control. We have other things in the process to solve that problem.

It isn't us that needs to install another line, it is VDI - you might want to tell them that - Trust me, everyone else there is telling them the same thing.

I can't release many of the details because of their confidentiality.

Matt,

I think there is probably a snag between you and the servers causing a problem. You might want to do a a tracert to see where the problems are. It isn't on our side

Hmm... You might want to do some research on connections between you and the servers - even you and the world! Nothing was wrong yesterday - Qwest even had their stuff working properly.

Okay, everything is fine now. it goes through quest.net fine. Webmaster-forums.com comes in after 14 servers or whatever, so TWF is num 15 from where I am. Everything is fine now! Next time it is down, I will do a traceroute.

I was not able to access this site yesterday, and today, I barely could. I went to this site at http://webmaster-forums.com instead of www.webmaster-forums.com and got through. All the links I use, I took out the www. and they worked...it is kind of strange, but oh well. Hope this gets fixed ASAP.

P.S.-I ping www.webmaster-resources.com in dos and request was timed out all 4 times. I ping webmaster-resources.com and got an average of 58ms. I am on cable, so it should be fairly fast. I don't know what is wrong, but I want it fixed...hehe

P.P.S-same thing with www.dids.com (couldn't access) dids.com, I could.

This isn't server related in any way. Everything is perfect from our side. I don't know why but a number of people have had this problem for about the last 24 hours. Each of the people that have contacted me were routed through New York and a major router (bbnplanet.net) up there has been down for at least 24 hours now.

http://www.internettrafficreport.com/cgi-bin/tr_chartpage.pl?NorthAmerica

If you do a tracert and you find that you go through a router up near New York, that is probably the problem. I don't know why the www doesn't work and the other does, but I know it is not related to the server nor anything we even remotely can troubleshoot as we reach the site fine using both, as do a number of other people that I have contacted that are on the West coast (which normally doesn't get routed through New York).

Anyway, whatever is causing the problems isn't us or something in our control.

Hey,
I haven't been able to access this site in like 2 days. I don't know what's wrong. I can get everywhere else. It keeps saying "Connection Timeout" that has never happened to me before until the last few days.

Obviously you are getting here somehow

Anyway, sorry you guys are having such problems. I know there is nothing wrong over here, but that damn router up north has been having problems for 3 days now and *still* isn't fixed... It is really causing problems for a lot of East coast companies.

Not much we can do about it though. Servers are fine, connections are fine, everything is just fine. I haven't had problems connecting to this site over the past couple days. I know that from the West coast, everything seems ok... But, I think the majority of you guys that are having problems are on the East coast... It must just be that.

Anyway, hope things clear up for you guys soon.

Well we're getting here because it seems to be fixed now. But for me at least, I'm not going through any damn New York router. That was the first time it's been down in the past few days.

There are no problems with the servers or the connection.

I hope the Internet clears up within the next 24 hours so that you guys can once again start accessing TWF normally.

Justin,

You are on the East coast and whether you think so or not, you actually probably are going through a New York server.

No problems also for me and I am in Malaysia.

What I understand when there is a temporary routing failure somewhere, it will take some time before everything gets back to normal, it's call "propagation time" the expert's technical terms and for new DNS they call "migration time" both takes sometimes 1-2 days to peak to top performance.

Hope this helps.

Hey,

Maybe this can help, when I use the www it tries to connect to this IP Address:

209.201.3.134 - which doesnt work

when I remove the www it connects to this IP address fine:

216.10.18.77

hope that helps somehow.

Yes, last night we renumbered all of our accounts with new IP addresses. It looks like 'www' is still propogating for you (both with and without the 'www' work fine for me). But, up until last night, I have no idea why you couldn't reach the site as the IP addresses weren't changed until last night.

OK, I am going to close this thread. It is getting fairly large and it isn't going into new territory ... If you feel the need to continue the thread, please create a new one.

I think using the word "down" is incorrect because TWF isn't down. It is simply unreachable for some people. Why that is is not my duty to figure out but I can assure you that it isn't in Dynamic Internet Solutions's hands to fix.
