Best FREE Login script

Anyone know of any really good login scripts that will automatically redirect a member to a page with their username/name on it and have info specifically directed towards their needs/likes?

Would it be best to use a database of some sort for this instead and if so which type of db?

use .htaccess files

one of my friends at www.cgi-unlimited.com has a good .htpasswd generates there.
