Too old to learn?

Hi all,

Im new to web development, starting at the bottom - teaching myself HTML, CSS, i learnt some CSS3 and basic Javascript at some point but then went off it. I have done this on and off the past few months, never really sticking to it but always coming back to the same subject. Im 32 and worried that im wasting my time learning - what if i dont get a job in web development? I think what puts me off is that im learning by myself and get demotivated, so i joined this forum hoping to find people who are in a similar position as me! Hopefully i can get some tips, ideas about your learning techniques, which websites/books have been useful to you and how many hours a day do you put into your learning?

Thanks all

Sara

Hi Sara,

Welcome here! I don't think you're too old to learn at all! Many of us picked this up on the site while working or studying in other disciplines.

Do you have an idea for a site that you're working on? I find it always helps to have some practical tasks to frame the learning process.

Hi Sara

I agree with Megan, you are certainly not too old!! I am self taught and was older than 32 when I started on websites, although I did have computer knowledge before that.

I started by building a domain concerning my hobby. Then I built a personal one, then I built one for friends, now I build for myself (affiliate marketing) and for customers. I simply love doing it and it is a hobby for me as well as bringing in some money!

I think you have to use online tutorial site to learn web development and all the programming language. I also use online tutorial site to learn programming language and i learn it at least 4 hours a day. I use w3school tutorial site to learn programming language that really the best tutorial site which explain each subject in brief with good example.

It's never too late to learn.
However, you should find the most suitable method to learn what you want, or once you fail, you will easily give up, once determined, just start to fulfil.

Hello Sara.,
Age is not the matter of fact to study..!!Just concentrate on what you want to do and think how can you execute it..Try to find the easiest method to do that work..Success is at your feet.!!
