Dreamweaver CS3 "Background File Activity" pop-up

I'm just posting this on the off chance that someone knows how to disable this. Every time I preview in browser I get this really annoying "Background File Activity" pop-up. I'm not sure if this has something to do with how I have my site set up to publish to a local network or if it's just something they added in CS3 that you can't change.

I am currently using the trial version while I wait for the upgrade to come in. The main reason I want to upgrade is because they seem to have (mostly) fixed that annoying bug where it doesn't let you edit CSS that "maybe blocked by a template" or whatever (forget the actual error message).

Answered my own question - works fine when I set it to preview using temporary file. That's not a great solution though because then I end up with temporary files all over the place...

I have CS3 too. Have you noticed that DW is kind of laggy? Like when you highlight something in the source code, it pauses and then highlights it? Have you noticed any lag time at all when editing code? For me, it was so annoying I started using UltraEdit. I found this google group about it, but most of the people there are on macs.

No, I haven't noticed any lagging at all. Will try to pay more attention to that from now on Confused

I figured out how to get rid of this but I forget what the solution was. It was something in my site setup... the way the local server was set up or something.

Old thread but since it was brought up.

1. Yeah!! for using Ultra Edit, I have been for 10 years now. Wink Only reason I don't is I prefer Zend Studio since I have it. (I'll admit Notepad++ is great for free though!)

2. The article that was just linked:

a. be careful and check if you are etting an applicatin called netdrive, or the file netdrive.exe, as there was issues with this that it (netdrive.ese) is actually NOT free to use, it is part of Novel's Netware software that they still protect and you need to have a legal license to netware to use it. (I last checked into it a year or two ago). There is also WebDrive. Additionally, even though the "file tranfer" dialog is gone (cause now it thinks it saves to the local file), the netdrive/webdrive program will still have to take the same time to detect the file save, and do the same FTP upload that dreamweaver did. the only difference, you don't know. (and if you hit refresh to check a page you are working on before it is done, you won't get the right results)

b. the tip to set the default timeout is for when you get a prompt (ie, replacing a file, override checkouts, etc), not hide the regular activity.

3. One of the things Megan may have changed to speed it up is the "Maintain Sync Info" which can put more ftp load out there.

i think it can work fine with a high powered machine, while the trial version is easier to setup, once you are able to use it, you will know how much useful it can be for you.
