I'm an Ubuntu Linux user, so GIMP is the most suitable alternative to Photoshop available on Ubuntu. Although GIMP is not so powerful graphics software as Photoshop its quite enough for most tasks of web designer.

I currently use PSP 6.1 and really like it. The only purpose why I don't use Illustrator is because I've never got game to trying it. As a web creator I'd be fascinated to know which of the two individuals desire. A friend of my own has both and says he wants neither as they provide different elements.

Photoshop is best if you need to edit images. If you design a vector logo so i suggest you to go with illustrator.

As per my experience about in this field I think Adobe Photoshop is one of the best of them.. The CS5 version is better than CS4 in terms performance and usability.

There are many others also but i feel comfortable while using these softwares.
they fulfill all my requirements which should be needed for a graphic designing software.
perhaps you find any other program best
but i don't think so as i am satisfied with these software.

for the purpose of editing in the pictures i used few program but i use adob photoshop12 and adob illustrator to work on is the most beautiful program because of its options and tools so i would suggest to any one who is engaged in the business of editing should use adob photoshop and to improve further work use illustrator.

I've been in the industry for a while and I've found Photoshop is the best option for web design. Even though now-a-days you really don't even need a graphics program to design a website, especially considering the amount of advances we've seen with CSS.

Even on the most high profile website you don't need high quality graphics. Within reason, low quality graphics look just as good on a website as low quality ones.
It follows that you don't need a quality (and expensive) graphics programme.
I've never found the free Paint.net unable to do anything I've wanted it to, so why pay for anything else?

Well Some of the remarkable tools that are available to create effective design are Photoshop and Illustrator especially the latest CS 5 Series. But begin and open source fan i still prefer to work with GIMP 2.6.12.

I started with Pshop 5 and 5.5 then a little bit with Corel Draw. Now I am using CS5 and Illustrator. Still teaching myself on Flash and CSS. It is quite information. Basically is not so hard but I have to sort and order my thoughts, cuz on one exam in the university I wrote a code combining java and php and everything was mess ...
