The best free resource is http://www.netmechanic.com/ . Wins hands down in my opinion!

Time: 145 seconds at 40k.

Carolyn, I didn't get a java error?

Oh, I didn't know about that one (resource).
I think the java error must have been a "netscape" thing.

I tested it on my slowest connection, a 56k modem... It took 30+ seconds to load. Keep in mind that most users will give you ten seconds to display what they are looking for or they reach for the back button and are out of there. In ten seconds, your top bar and left side bar were loaded. If the majority of people coming to your site can get where they need to go using the left navigation bar, then you will do alright.

I don't know if they slowness is due to large graphic size, slow providor, etc. but I think you may want to look into speeding it up in one way or another. If it took me 30+ seconds on a 56k to load it, think of what it will take someone with a 28.8k modem (over 50% of 'net surfers at the moment)!

Hi Myriad,
I just took a look, was a little over a minute with my 28.8 connection, but the java error may have slowed it down. The web site garage, which is one of the most useful free resources I've seen on the net so far can analyze your site for you:
http://www.WebSiteGarage.com/

You can get a one page free tune-up, which will analyze load speed (all connections)for the page and each graphic on the page, browswer compatibility, links and a lot more... definately worth a look

take care,
