I've been working on a new design for my main site the last few days. To see what I have so far, the url is:

http://www.pageresource.com/zzztest/index_4.htm

The links work, but they will take you to the old versions of the pages they lead to.

I appreciate any feedback anyone has on the design, colors, feel, looks, etc. I'd like to have any wrinkles taken out and as much feedback as possible before launching a new design.

Carolyn:

Let me know what you think of the title graphic. I shortened the title to PageResource.Com so ideas were easier to come by. If you have tips for improvement, or know something you can do with it- let me know here or through e-mail.

Thanks to all for any comments,

Can I just start with a pointless comment, thank you
Is your site called the 'web design resource' or 'page resource'?

- like the logo
- easy navigation
- similar look/feel to the old site though...

quote:The Web Design Resource: Sunday, May 02 1999

...for the text above I would use the dame font/size as it looks a bit unbalanced.
- I might also use light grey/white alternate tables for your main categories
ie: Graphics Tutorial Links, Viewer Survey etc.

Thanks for the input JP.

The original name was The Web Design Resource, it's my business name. I've been considering calling the site "PageResource.Com" though, as it is shorter and more easily remembered. I'm just not quite sure of it yet.

Since we're talking about it- if anyone has a vote on which name I should go with- add it in with your comments, it will be interesting.

I'm going to change that font on the date to match, you are right- it would look better with the same font.

Hi John,
Big thumbs up for the logo, it looks great
Your site looks clean/polished, I don't see a need for any major changes. It might be fun to see another color or two but everything appears to "work" as is.
As far as the name, that's a good question. The two "page resource" and "web design resource" have different meanings.
I think of "web design" my first thought is how a page looks, whereas the "page resource" would include content, scripts, etc...along with the "look". "Page resource" may fit your site better since you have far more then just "design" to offer. You could in the future branch out and have a "web design resource" and "script resource" sub topics within your site. This way you can keep your old name incase you have a lot invested in it.
take care,

After working at it all day, I finally have the updated site going. Anyone who wants to take a look head over to:

Let me know if you find any errors, typos, mistakes, etc. I'm almost sure to have looked over something tonight.

Thanks,

John,
- I would make 'News/Updates:' bold
- at the bottom of the page your links entrapped in the HR Tags seem to be smaller width than the rest of the page - see what I mean?

John,

Sent you an email from your site, but will post it here also. On the whatsnew page, I found this typo.

JavaScript Section Reorganized
We made some *chnages* to the javascript

Only typo I found, but then didn't give it the ole "fine tooth comb" routine.

JP-

I see what you mean. With the input from Dan, I am going to need to work on the bottom links tonight.

Dan-

Thanks for the e-mail and the post. I'll try to get that extra link to the whatsnew page out, and also fix the typo for anyone who finds it.

One suggestion: Please choose some link colors.. it was very hard for me to navigate around your site with my light blue & pink default colors. Besides that, looks great.

Hi,

I've been looking at the addition of a third column to help make the text a little easier to focus on. Let me know what you think of this design idea, here is the URL:

http://www.pageresource.com/zzztest/index_1.html

Does it add too much more or make things confusing/overcrowded?

Thanks Smiling

I think it looks great, except I was a little bored. Maybe some colors or something. It didn't seem crowded to me. Does anyone else get a blah feeling when viewing this page? If not, then it's just me and I wouldn't change a thing then.

Wierd you post this I recently considered a move to two columns but decided to scrap it for now.

It looks good in high res but in 640:480 it is almost ridiculously narrow in the center column.

Hi John,
I really like the three column page!! I really don't see anything about the layout that I would change -- very clean, nothing confusing or crowded from here.

take care,

Thanks Carolyn! Smiling

I'm a little bit worried about the middle cloumn getting too small at 640x480. That column will actually collapse or expand with the browser width. It is still viewable, but a little crushed.

On the other hand, this design would make it easier for me to add in my newsletter form etc. and give the page a feeling of being centered.

I have wanted to add pictures of the authors of the articles featured in the middle column to add color. Unfortunately, I'm the only author and I can't afford to hire another one yet. Shocked

Oh well, I'll keep working on it. Smiling
