Can anyone recommend some good value and reliable ubuntu VPS hosting? Been looking at webfusion as they are doing some good deals but read some bad reviews!

I've been using Linode for 296 days, and I haven't experienced any downtime. They let you select your datacenter (they have one in London), so your mileage may vary (I'm in the Fremont, CA USA datacenter).

I also tried Slicehost but I couldn't pick a datacenter, and the one I was in was too slow for me.

Yep, I think that's good too. And I always use it, for a long time.

For your information, I have gone with a VPS hosting with Ubuntu 10 at 34sp.com. They are reasonable and UK based which is what I wanted and have good support.

The only one thing that I want to say you that when searching for a VPS provider its important to know exactly what you are looking for. I also came to know that there are many different options available with virtual private servers.

I second that! It is important to choose wiselly and to inform oneself before hand. I can recomend that you check out the VSP hosting from ixwebhosting (http://www.ixwebhosting.com/vps-hosting). They have a fantastic offer - the value for money is really good and they also have a good support center.

I have some bad experience too, choosing a web hosting provider. A lot of promises and assurances in high quality services are often met to be nothing more just than marketing trick. Many of them are offering unlimited bandwidth ... hey ... is there such thing? Of course not. I came across with good reports about web hosting company for reliable and cheap web hosting (http://www.one.com/en/). If you know what exactly you need just send request email. I hope this is good enough. And watch out for scam companies.

Linode is the only one I have ever been involved with. However, if you are uninterested in such, you can search in google or another similar search engine and find more options and you will be able to learn more information about them.
