PHP developers can encrypt their code so it cannot be stolen or altered with the Zend Guard (formerly the Zend Encoder) -- not a very open-source friendly move, but good for commercial products.

The Zend Optimizer is a free runtime application that enables PHP to run the files encoded by the Zend Guard. This can be freely used by anyone looking to run encoded applications. Please download and follow the installation instructions included in the distributions.

And I'd like to add that not many companies offer Zend Optimizer in their plans. I have seen it only in plans of marblehost.com but why is it so rarely offered by the companies? Is it high intensive software?

More Zend info from Adobe

What's possible in the world of development has just been expanded, thanks to Adobe's cooperation with Zend®, the PHP Company. Now it's even easier to create applications, content, and video across operating systems and devices using the Adobe® Flash® Platform. Using Adobe Flex® software, you can build applications, content, and video that run inside a browser, using Adobe Flash software, or on the desktop using the Adobe AIR™ software runtime.

[EDIT]

My web hosting packages include the Zend Optimizer too

I'd like to point out that I saw that serverpoint.com had Zend Optimizer and video tutorials which will explain you everything. Have a look at it as there is useful information about it. As for the company itself, it will undoubtedly suit your needs and provide with good services.

Not all companies provide Zend Optimizer in their package plans and I'd like to know why is it so? Have seen it with webhostingbuzz.com and some other companies but not many.

Hm ... marblehost.com also provides Zend Optimizer. At least I have seen this feature in their plans and it can be useful for your needs as well.

Zend Optimizer is good one, but I am definitely sure that if you use magento web hosting, you will have far more better speed connection. If you desperately looking for reliable company, I suggest you to check out simplehelix.com - this company will pass on the savings to you.
