i need an alternative to embedding windows media player into a website

I would like to play *.wav or (i don't mind converting the sound into some other format like *.mp3 or *.swf, whatever) in my web page with play/pause and stop buttons. but i don't want to keep it restricted to windows users. so i thought some kind of simple flash player with a time bar scroll and everything.
does anyone know anything that i can use or know how i can do this?

PS: sorry if i haven't explained this very well (lack of sleep) Sticking out tongue

If you go to HotScripts, and then visit several different languages and then the Music Management sections, surely you can find something utilizing flash the way you want.

That one is cool, its too.. well basic. I prefer too use the one I sent you, or better yet make a custom one for myself.

Does your Linux support Flash 6? Because that is what the one you are using is made in, you might need to download a new one, because those ones are a little old.

I'm using Ubuntu 7.04 and have tried it on 2 computers with it on
I'll look in to that tho see if i can manually download the latest flash and maybe that will fix it

You just might not want to use a flash player that is 3 versions behind the newest one. So I suggest finding a new one.

Possibly, I don't use ubuntu, I tried it once, but I still preferred windows, since I have grown up with it. But also the player itself wasnt created with the newer verison, it was made with 6.

Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier. Yes, Flash does work on GNU+Linux, right up to the latest version. It's nasty proprietary software though, so bundling it in a GNU+Linux distribution would be illegal. In Ubuntu you can install it from the Synaptic Package Manager, just type: 'flash' in the search box. if it doesn't appear you may need to enable the multiverse repository (should be under edit repositories or something similar).

Hope this helps.

If you do decide to embed a Flash movie in your web page(s), I recommend SWFObject.

Quote: SWFObject is a small Javascript file used for embedding Adobe Flash content. The script can detect the Flash plug-in in all major web browsers (on Mac and PC) and is designed to make embedding Flash movies as easy as possible. It is also very search engine friendly, degrades gracefully, can be used in valid HTML and XHTML 1.0 documents*, and is forward compatible, so it should work for years to come.
