Slow DNS Lookup - Who's fault is it?
Not sure if this question goes here, but here it is:
I've noticed that when you type the url for some sites they connect very quickly, while others take many seconds (or longer) to just get the "Contacting Host" message.
Who's at fault when a site has slow DNS lookup?
Is it the server hosting company? Internic? The ISP you're on?

I think the correct answer is all of the above.
Actually, not sure how much Internic has to do with the whole picture, but what kind of connection your ISP has to the Internet and what kind of connection the hosting company has would definetly be a factor.
If your local DNS server can't resolve the name for you, then a request is sent to a root directory DNS server which I believe is completely separate from Internic.
It can be as high as a 7 or 8 step process to connect to a web site and this is what takes the time to get that connect message. How well a site is propagated around the Internet can eliminate some of these steps also. If your ISP's DNS server can resolve for you, you will get almost an instantaneous connect message.
The fastest way to access a web site is by using it's IP address if known, because it eliminates most of the steps.
