POP3/SMTP & PHP on Win32 w/Apache 2.0...
Hi
I had asked earlier about creating an .htaccess file on the Apache 2.0 server running under Windows XP and received some great help and it solved my problem so now I'm going to push my luck and throw in another question while I'm at it and see what I can find out.
Ok, first of all, I want to run my own POP3/SMTP server under WinXP and I'd like to get a free/GPL one if I can - at least until I've had the chance to learn all of the ins and outs. Any suggestions?. I'd be using my static IP so I guess my SMTP server would be "SMTP."?. And what would I use for an email address?...something like "username@"?. Email is a fairly gray area for me so if I just had a little push to get me started:).
The other thing is that I really want to get PHP installed on Apache/WinXP and when I went to the PHP site, they had all kinds of wonderful tools, control panels and lots of other goodies for Apache/Windows but I'm not sure which ones I need exactly or how to set it all up and configure it (I'm an old Perl guy). Does PHP work pretty good under Windows?.
Anyway, there's my "wish list". Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated!

Well, I got MySQL and PHP installed on Windows XP and did all the config stuff exactly as it was described and yet I don't see an entry for MySQL in my Windows services control panel (either in standard or extended). Furthermore, rather than the browser actually running the script, it just displays the php code. What am I missing here?.

Mercury Mail is a free one that will run on Windows.

Hey thank's folks, I really appreciate the suggestions!
I decided to go with MailEnable because I had already tried the others but I keep getting errors regarding my DNS numbers for some reason so to keep it simple, I'm just using a CRM solution and my hotmail address.
