I think users above have given you a lot of great ideas. However, I think they may forgot one trend, that is the Windows 8 metro style website. With the popular of Windows 8, many websites have changed their styles to Windows 8 metro style and they all look beautiful and professional.

In my opinion, Windows 8 metro style website is not difficult to create because most of the images on this kind of websites are easy to make, they are rectangle with pure background color. I think simple is the best.

It is fact that the readers'

It is fact that the readers' or users' experience of visiting the website has totally changed, like website designers' perspective for designing a website has changed and improved a lot. Every web designer is trying to design search engine friendly as well as responsive websites. I think WordPress and Joomla are the best options in this regard. To make your website more eye-catching and approachable you can give a try to elements like Responsive layouts, photography & typography, QR code, social media icons, infinite scrolling, mobile navigation pin, APIs, single page web design, CSS3 and much more.
