Oh shoot and now it's FF 3.5 Why didn't I notice that? Where have I been, zomg!? lol!

Yeah even if you get everything right, there's always something that goes bad. I have this banner which is like a gradient. It goes smoothly on my FF on Ubuntu but on FF XP it's like there's no gradient at all.

I use Ubuntu Linux, and Firefox in that does very different things to FF in my XP laptop - even for simple things like basic alignments sometimes.
Divs behave differently a lot of the time between the XP and unbuntu FF.

I use browsershots site to see what's happening in MAC versions, but it would be nice to have one of those on my desk too.

The joys of web design...

I'm noticing the same thing.

I'm noticing the same thing. A page I'm working on has three images that abut each other. I set the color where they meet to be identical in all three images. In most browsers, you can't see the join. In Safari and Firefox 3.5 the join is obvious.

No alignment problems though.

Using Firefox's colour picker, the colors match the RGB values I specified in the editor in FF 3.0, but are significantly different in FF 3.5. !!!

Now, I understand that this has something to do with the colour profile. But the profile in all three is the same (sRGB-icc). I don't get it.

Incidentally, I'm on a Mac. Viewing the images in any local application, the colours are vibrant. They are disappointingly flat in most browsers. Only Firefox 3.5 and Safari are giving me the same experience as the original. In brief, as the colour profile gives me the correct colours, I don't want to get rid of it - even if I knew how.

What to do?

There are irregularities

There are irregularities between all browsers and probably all versions (especially IE of course), and even then the same browsers and versions have differences in different operating systems.
But it really depends on what you are doing.

Basic CSS and HTML is generally the same in all browsers, but if you are trying to align things up or style elements specifically, as is nearly always the case, then you do have to check the cross compatibility.

This is a pretty good site for checking just about all browsers and versions and in all operating systems.
