I'm not an expert on this stuff but I tend to use anything from 3 to 10. I try to use my H2 title as the first keyword, and then keywords from my first paragraph. Seems to work for me.

You can use as you wish for meta section. But you should avoid keyword stuffing. Generally 20-30 keywords are enough. You can use Google webmaster tools to check any meta tags errors.

The problem with this tag

The problem with this tag (it's called the meta keywords tag) is that very few major search engines accept it as an official tag anymore. It's debated whether they make a difference or not.

But yes, you could theoretically insert all the keywords that you wanted. But if you do use them, don't waste your time and do the "keyword stuffing" thing (aka putting 1000's of keywords in). You will most likely get better listing with the few search engines that don't ignore the tag if you only put around 20 keywords in there.

Wow if you use 1000 keyword

Wow if you use 1000 keyword on your page, I can guarantee it will almost definitely be treated as spam/ keyword stuffing to the extreme. Use a bit of common sense and spend some time looking at the top 5 pages in the organic search for your keyword in Google and see the keyword density for each page. Then play around with your own site to get the same amount. No one can tell you off hand the best number of keywords to use, because it is slightly different dependent on the keyword you are targeting. Spend a bit of time do as I have said and you will get your answer.

Hope this helps.

The only 2 tags you should

The only 2 tags you should think about are the title and description tags, but don't try to cram too many keywords into them. Theses tags will be used by some of the SEs in their result listings and it is more important to ensure that they read well and convey a message that will entice the visitor to look at your site.

You are better spreading your keyword phrases over different pages within the site - Search Engines list all your pages, not only the home page.

The two most important things you can do to your site is ensure that your keyword combinations are in the body text of your pages, and focus on getting as many quality inbound links to your site as possible. And when you've done that - find some more quality inbound links.

I tend to go for 20 as a general rule. If you put in too many and then consider SEO element like key word density - then the text can become unengaging.

Hi komee014 welcome to TWF

First of all, the consensus is that the meta keywords tag is ignored by Google, although it may be read by other search spiders.

There is no absolute limit, but 1000 keywords is really stretching it. Many people recommend using 25-30 and some swear by 5-10.

It depends on the specialization of your content, generally the more specialized and substantive your content the better your ranking in SERP.

One important caveat is DO NOT repeat the same word more than 5 times in your keywords tag (ie when entering similar phrases).

Also, it is better to list keywords that appear in your page body text.

It is a good idea to have specific sets of keywords for different pages.
