This is precisely why I manage my own servers. Nothing like this breaks unless I brake it.

The odd thing is the content

The odd thing is the content is still there, it gets pulled into the "mysite" pages - assigned to the correct forums, but only in mysite.

Also, new posts to the forums only appear on mysite - weeird

It was a real bitch to move the site from my "normal" dev server to her GoDaddy account... and now this...

I will look for an old db backup, perhaps.

The owner also got this notice, a couple of times - although they say the old db is still active, I tried switching to the new db url, but it is the same - I have not had time to examine the db directly...

So when she asked them to fix it, they sent the notice about charging $150 to "reset" her hosting account for using 3rd party software, which really freaked her out...

Jeez, that's one reason I left StartLogic, they changed a db password on me and refused to fix it... what kind of hosting company goes around changing the db? Oh yeah, I guess if you are GoDaddy you can do what ever you want, and then charge the clients to fix your mess. One reason I started offering my own [reliable] hosting (not a plug, just the facts, ma'am).

====================================================
IMPORTANT HOSTING ACCOUNT NOTICE:
NEW DATABASE SERVER NAME
====================================================

Dear xxx,

This is to inform you that the database server name used to
connect to database flydrup has been changed from:

[old server name]

to

[new server name]

You will see the new database name in the Hosting Control
Center and database administration tools. This change has
no immediate affect on your site.

To update your site code, modify the database connection
string to reflect the new database server name. This can be
done at any time, as the old database server name is still in
operation. Updating as soon as possible, however, ensures future
connectivity should your database be moved to a new server for
hosting account changes or infrastructure improvements.

Databases set up with DSNs have been updated automatically.
No action is required on your part to update site code that
uses DSNs.

Certainly sounds like they

Certainly sounds like they broke it, you could probably get the $150 charge waived, if you kicked-up enough of a stink.

I would only bother if you're certain they broke it, and you lost some important stuff.
