I believe Mambo is pretty much a dead project these days.

As for Drupal vs. Joomla: use them both and find which you prefer. Personally I prefer Drupal over Joomla, as Drupal's API is just beautiful and themeing is easier (and doesn't rely on tables).

Having said that, Joomla is improving all the time.

Drupal and Mambo started out about the same time.

The best Mambo developers adapted the codebase into Joomla (some would say "stole" the codebase....)(so there is a matter of karma)

I do not know anybody beginning a project with Mambo these days.

Drupal has a very active and supportive user and developer community.

This forum site is run on Drupal.

I was hired for a feasibility study to compare Joomla and Drupal. I concluded that many publishers prefer Joomla because it is what they are faniliar with, and the admin is a bit more streamlined. However, many developers prefer Drupal because it generates cleaner faster code, and is more fine-grained in its permissions and elsewhere (which makes admin more complex, but also more powerful). In addition, nearly all plug-in modules for Drupal are free to use, but many Joomla extensions are "commercial" and cost $$$.

I also believe that Drupal is more secure, I have seen Joomla sites hacked, but not Drupal sites.

Personally, I use Drupal for about 85% of my projects.

Open Source CMS has a test drive installation for Drupal, Mambo, Joomla and dozens of other apps...

I was considering Drupal CMS or Mambo CMS. Is there something specific that one does over the other?
