Hi, this is the first time I hear someone telling that non relevant ads are being displayed after joining AdSense. You have full control over the ads displayed.

Monetizing your website is always a difficult task. some companys will pay and some not. been on the internet as a webmaster for 11 years now. and so far the only way i make good money is by using adsense, milnic media and paypopup, i usually combine those 3 and i make a decent amount of money. enough to pay my montly rent. the rest come from web developing

paypopup can be a really good source of income if you alllow popups windows and banners in your site and you have most of your visitors from countrys like usa,canada and the UK. the down point of this is sometimes been to annoying for your visitors ( you can set this up to be 1 pop per session or 1 pop per day or week). but a good site will always be a good site.

Having checked out the sites you mentioned and understood how affiliate programs work, there is a question that occurs to me - would it a suitable route to selling my own advertising space be to start via the affiliate route and then move on to providing direct space?

If you do programming tutorials, your visitors will most likely be interested in hosting, domain names, website design templates etc... so finding a affiliate program that works for you might be a good idea as well (cj.com, tradedoubler.com, affiliatewindow.com)
