Forgot to add that launching a site with broken links on it would affect your SEO. SE bots that visit your site would jump from one page/link to another. If it happens to encounter a dead link, some pages would not get indexed. So it is really advisable to fix broken links prior to launching

If you launched a site that has broken links in it, visitors would find your site to be unprofessional and might not revisit you site again. Broken links will also affect your SEO. Here is a link you may find useful in checking for broken links on your site http://www.adultchamber.com/members/broken-link-checker.htm

Hope it helps

And why are there so many broken links to begin with? I think we're not understanding the question here If you've put your website together properly you shouldn't need to do anything to the links before uploading.

No, but why wouldn't you un-break them?

Required? No. You can do whatever you want with your website.

Quote: what will be the possible effects of this on the visitors...?

They might just put up with all those broken links, but some might not visit your site anymore because they think it's still being built. Broken links are really annoying for visitors and it's not a good idea to have them on your website.
