I think you're referring to the fact that subdomains will show up in search engine results. I had thought of that and should have said so in my question. I'm currently using a robots.txt file to exclude the searchbots and, as far as I know, it's working well. I'm also reading up on using .htaccess files.

I was thinking more along the lines of some sort of wildcard like you use to find files, eg " *.mysite.com" but I didn't want to say as I thought it might be too embarrassingly stupid a suggeston. :blush:

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. The fact that nobody has suggested any other problems with my brilliant plan ( ) makes me think that search engines are my only real concern.

Perhaps it would help if I explained why I'm asking. I want most of my site to be public but I'd like my blog be more private. Word Press does allow you to make your blog accessible only to registered users but people have to log in to read it. However, that's a bit of a nuisance and it can be a big impediment to those friends who aren't very computer literate.

I want a compromise between convenience and privacy. I don't need it to be inaccessible, just not out in the open where it's obvious.
