I agree, you don't know how genuine the feedback is first of all. And then secondly, as bondingm mentioned, if there are no detailed accounts then the feedback isn't helpful anyway.

I mainly look at testimonials to see if there are any people or companies that I recognize, who are endorsing the product or site.

Feedback and testimonials have to be taken lightly.
Not many people will put bad feedback on the list, so will only ever give an overall positive impression of the site.

If one can read all testimonials, good and bad, then a fair impression of the site can be gained.

Also, you don't know how genuine the feedback is - if the site owner or their friends have made them up or even just edited them slightly.
Even without that, feedback can be legitimately trimmed to only show the positive sections from someone's comments.

My attitude about this quote is that it is not very helpful to me in determining whether or not to go with the hosting company. First of all, she provides no details, and we have no idea what she is hosting even.

If all of the testimonials were like this, I would probably lose interest in the company. But if it's only one or two, I'd contact the company directly to find out what I need to know.

I'm not a big fan of testimonials, especially when it comes to Web Hosting. You have to find the right web hosting provider for you, and other people's opinions may not be the best source to base a decision off of. However - I would recommend that you first read through the website and what they have to offer. If you are satisfied with that - then read the testimonials afterwards...do not read them first.

I do not always trust the testimonies. I prefer to do y own research specifically on sites where you can see how many downtime their servers had, how old the company is, how many customers they have and try to call them to see how fast they respond and how they answer the questions you have.

I think persons may trust the testimonials that are on the web sites of the web hosting companies. For example, A2hosting.com has the whole page that is dedicated to this issue.
