Jeeves, that's exactly what I did on my personal site at thepriebes.com. I read that first message (without going to the link) and was thinking it wasn't that big of a deal on my site.

I just put a login link in the footer, personally. It links to that exact user page you mentioned.

Update! There's an easier way, I am an idiot!

Apparently (and my searches never found this before) the log in block can be disabled, but still accessed through /user, e.g. http://www.example.com/user To disable the log in block go into Administer -> Site building -> Blocks, select in the Region drop-down for the User login block. Now log out, and visit http://www.example.com/user (or http://www.example.com/?q=user if you're not using Clean URLs), where example.com is your site URL.

My method is still valid, and might well be useful under certain circumstances, but takes a little longer.
