Here is the link I was talking about:

http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-rising-tide-lifts-all-ships

The first bit isn't that relevant to you - start reading from the second paragraph after the first diagram. The second diagram and the paragraphs around it are most important here.

Thanks Megan,

I will get to work on adding the blog to my website and hopefully this will also help to build up my traffic.

Oh, it makes a big difference! Why? Because you want all your link value pointing to your main site. One of the reasons to have a blog is to get inbound links. Since search engines use links to pass value from site-to-site, you want all your value to be passed to the same site, not distributed among many smaller sites. This means that you want as much of your content as possible to sit on your main domain. So no subdomains and no separate sites.

I'll see if I can find the SEOmoz article about this...

Thanks Tim,

In terms of traffic though, will having the blog on the actual website help?

Better from what standpoint? As long as it's linked into your site and the look and feel is the same as the rest of your site, I don't see that it will make a difference to the person viewing your site.
