Well, maybe it's time you developed a drupal module to do it then.

Seriously though, there are a lot of sponsored Drupal modules. If you know of a few businesses that need this functionality then it's possible one of them will sponsor you to do it. Failing that, you'll be creating something of use to you and many people.

Ya, I'm thinking the same. I just can't believe know-one has released such a system yet. I know lot's of business implement that kind of system.

Uh, I can't think of any ecommerce packages that are not technically a CMS.

It sounds like regardless of what starting point you pick, whether it be a CMS or start from scratch, you'll need quite a bit of custom programming to pull something like that off.

I've never heard of a sales system that can do this (unfortunately). What's your coding ability? If you're able to spend some time and know PHP I'd recommend using Drupals ecommerce module. It's designed as a generic 'ecommerce platform' so it's very open-ended and allows you to develop whatever sort of shop you want.

The main drupal site is: http://www.drupal.org
The ecommerce module is at: http://drupal.org/project/ecommerce
There are also lots of modules in the commerce category to look at: http://drupal.org/project/Modules/category/55

You should know about versions: there's very recently been a release of Drupal taking it to version 5. A large number of the ecommerce modules haven't been ported to the new version yet, so you may want to start on version 4.x and move up to 5 once all the modules you need are available.

I'm confident Drupal can fulfill your needs, although it will take a bit to learn. Unfortunately I don't think there's an easy solution to your problem though!
