there's also a nice web app to move files directly via FTP http://directransfer.net

You may use Windows Commander (FTP) to migrate your files from one server to the other one.

by FTP do you mean front page?

if so what comand do i use to do this please?

ftp means (File Transfer Protocol), as suggested by Tim, WS_ftp is on of those free ftp clients for windows, including the one I recommend which is Filezilla from http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla...

What it does is connect to the remote server (the computer you have your internet files on) and provide you with an File Explorer type screen where you can easily drag and drop files without having to learn the ftp commands...

If you are unsure how to totally go about doing these yourself, ask a friend who knows about migrating your files and installations, or you can pay someone to do them for you....

Although front page can FTP files to a site, it's not the easiest way to download and upload files when moving a site like you are.

One such program you can try for free is WS_FTP, located here:

http://www.ipswitch.com/

Of course, that assumes you have Windows.

You can use ftp to download the local files from the old server, then you could use php myadmin to make a backup of you mysql database.

On the new server you can re-upload your files and installations, and restore the mysql database there too... although I think you need to look to your platforms "migration" instructions... check phpbb and wordpress for migration instructions...
