I'd thought of that but I just really don't want to have two names anymore (I already do, since I'm known by my step-dad's last name but my documentation is all in my real dad's last name). I know lots of people do that, but I definitely want to be known under my married name. Megan McDermott is a better name anyway I could also think of a clever title for the site instead of just using my boring name. I like the idea of that but I haven't thought of any good ones yet.

The only problem I have with godaddy is that they are really spammy and trying to sell you hosting and upgrades and crap which makes it hard to do what you actually need to do. And I'd like to get all of our domains in one place eventually, so I don't have to keep track of them at a bunch of different registrars.

I haven't had a chance to talk to Liam about this yet ao we'll see what he thinks...

I kind of agree with andy. You could keep this blog as it is and then have a combined you-and-liam one as well say?

I know this is is Megans post and apologies for the hi-jack but just quickly, what difference does the registrar of the domain make? I can see how different web hosts matter but I always thought that a domain was just a domain.

Why don't you leave it as it is and keep it as your screen name so to speak - many famous authors write under different names.

That domain doesn't expire until next September anyway so I will redirect it for at least that long. My good linkbacks go to individual posts though so I'll have to get the other webmasters to change those. I'd have to see what happened to any remaining linkbacks - if there are any, that is!

I will be happy when that domain expires and I don't have anything with godaddy anymore though

Have you thought about keeping both domains and simply having the old domain automatically redirected to the new one when typed in a browser? You wouldn't have to continue to host the old domain name; just keep it registered to you which doesn't cost much at all.

I definitely want to register that domain soon (and a few others I have ideas about!). Just have to decide on which registrar we're going with I'm also considering re-naming the blog to something more interesting (not my name!) but I don't have any great ideas for that right now.

I'll ask Liam what we can do on our dedicated server...

I would say first thing is first, register that domain right away - you never know, somebody might steal that domain from you.

And depending on the control panel system your host uses, you might not even have to move. Root control could simply replace your current domain with the new one. Until then, use it has a parked domain or something.

If I were you I would move the site now. That way no one esle takes the domain, because you wouldnt want to get stuck with a .biz or .info name.
