Tor is one way. I tried it out 5 years ago and it was very slow.

With wireless being quite common these days, there are many services around that provide VPNs to protect your communications over public wifi networks. One I used while on vacation was $6 per month. The VPN provider IP addresses would be used whenever you have that application running. Not really intended to keep you anonymous, but it can also do so to some extent.
