Well, I make sure that the most important keyword(s) for my site/content is within the name. I also try to make it something either generic or brandable.

When we are trying to chose a new domain name, we just sit around with a dictionary and thesaurus and brainstorm lots of suitable words. Come up with a short list and see which are available. It seems to have worked OK so far. It's surprising what is available if you just think and look.

What free tools can be used for choosing a domain name? I'm at a loss, I'm planning on a language site, but all the good domain names are taken, don't know what to do either to take something which is worse or address a adomain name owner and buy it?

Maybe you're right here but it happens like that not very often.
