It's fine as long as the hosting is reliable. (remote backups!)

Peter has all his websites on the same hosting. This worries me. Isn't it like having all of your eggs in the same basket? What happens if it goes belly up?

It's never so easy to find your perfect host.

If you are lucky you'll choose the right one for yourself and you will never have to change

How many hosts?

I'm pretty fickle when it comes to web hosts. I usually end up using whatever host has the best special on the particular suffix I want to use at the time. It also depends what benefits they provide, like in one case I was looking for a webhost that provided a certain number of MySQLs for the cheapest price. Over the years I have used quite a number of hosts. At times I have thought it would be nice to consolidate all my accounts at one hosting provider but it just never works out that way.

As for me I used 2 hosts. The first one was xilo.net. Generally they were good but their support was not very fast. The second one was ahosting.biz. Their service is great and support works good but unfortunately my project failed and now I'm thinking of having a free hosting.

Short answer: 2.

Long answer:

Two, as long as you don't count Geocities and AOL back in the day. Which I don't.

I used Pair, then went to a local guy. The local guy was reselling, then he bought his own server. While it was probably his geek dream (which I can completely understand), he shouldn't have done that and put paying clients on there when he had no real experience maintaining a web server for others. Combine that with some poor customer service, and earlier this year I went back to Pair after several years away.

I also resell, but only to clients. The ones who signed up right away got me to the point where I was already saving money over what I had been paying the local guy. Now I'm almost to the point where I'm actually making a little on the hosting. My point is to provide a one-stop shop for clients if they so desire, but it's nice to make a little on it as well.

Pair is a fairly well known company, as far as web hosting goes. I know our own Greg K has used them as well, for much longer than I have. He like to brag about his low server number.

I never had a problem with them the first time I used them, although that was with just one website. Now, they will occasionally (though rarely) have very small amounts of connectivity issues with their MySQL servers, but that's about it. (They have MySQL servers that are separate from their web hosting servers.)

So what company are you with?
