http://technorati.com/ is a good Blog search engine type of site. It sort of combines a social site with yahoo.

You create an account then tell it what blogs you own and it will start matching to categories based on the tags in the blog.

I use blogger for some of my sites and it has certain features that will automatically send info to technorati and others.

ALSO, use of RSS feeds are tremendous. On my site URTournament.org I have two Blogs (for different areas), coupled with a single RSS feed that pulls from both blogs and the master game feed. This RSS feed has pretty much doubled my traffic. I think feedburner.com is awesome for your feed management.

People are in love with access these days so the more information channels you have the better.

The point is that the blog content needs to be good content. Good content that people wants to read. So it shouldn't be "stupid news" it should be relevant news about your industry. If you're selling funny t-shirts, you could post funny content. Things like top 10 lists are always good.

Getting traffic to a blog is a little trickier (I'm struggling with this myself). But once you get your content out people will pass it around to their friends, bookmark it on social bookmarking sites, and most importantly, keep coming back to see more.

SEO Moz is a good example for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the blog brings a lot of traffic to the site, which is really a site for a SEO company. Their articles often show up on digg and the like. Secondly, they've made themselves into experts in their field by writing valuable content. Thirdly, they often write about using blogging for promotion and the importance of having good content. Try reading some of the posts in their blogging category

Tom Sherman is another one you might want to look at. He talks a lot of crap but I happen to find it entertaining. That's the sort of content you'd want to go with (although with your target audence you'd probably be more raunchy). You could even post things like photos or youTube videos that relate to the products you're seeling.
