locatepeople;205288 wrote: One of my webhosts just charged my card $29.95 for an upgrade I did not request. globat.com . I thinkthey just sent every customer an email awhile back saying "hey, if you don't follow these steps we're goign to charge you for this promotions package".

Shouldn't they only charge you when you order stuff? It sounds to me like they know a certain percentage of customers will not check teir card statements or their email and not notice the charge.

The promotions pack you're being charged for is awful. It includes meta-tag generator, link checker, website submitter and website analyser. I ca get all of that stuff for free online, and it won't significanty increase your website's ranking!

What a joke. Are there any other globat.com customers out there?

ok noted. supprisingly they did that.
tq

I do not think they are right. How can you warn some one about a package he or she does not request? Those are optional packages. That type of selling is what we call force selling or upselling. It is not the right way to do it. Good though the money has been refunded.

Legally, you're right. But morally, it's a pile of crap.

I would think if they warn you about it ahead of time and give you time to perform the steps, they should have every right to charge. You mentioned people not checking their card statements and/or email. If you have a card, it's your responsibility (and the smart thing to do) to check your card statement every time it comes. And if you put your email as a method of contact (and most require that you do), then you would be irresponsible not to check it occasionally.

In other words, if they warn you ahead of time about something like this, and you never read the warning, that's your own fault.

Just my opinion of course.

I contacted them and they have qucikly refunded the money. Said it would take 48-72 hours. Overall they do have very good customer service, but this was the first time they've done anything like that. I only hope no one else was caught out by this.

I don't know if at applies to other countries, but in the UK that would definitely be illegal. Ring your credit card company and request a charge back stating that they took the money without permission, then move your hosting elsewhere is these sound like the tactics of a company that are very greedy or desperate for cash.
