Firstly, STOP USING JPEGS FOR NORMAL CONTENT!!! They make your site look awful. To solve this, either get the base image (without the text) and then create another image which gets overlayed via tables, for example:

<table>
<tr>
<td background="http://blah.com/blah.jpg">
<img src="http://blah.com/blah.gif">
</td>
<tr>
<td>
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog
</td>
</tr>
</table>

'

Or, use text.

Now, the good points.

It's good you provide information for your products that don't have images, however they are also "coming soon". Do note that visitors do not like seeing "coming soon" on your website too often.

However, I've just noticed a spelling mistake. You spelt Coming Soon as Comming Soon. Be sure to correct it.

OK, as I browse through... wow, your links page is huge, in terms of image size added.

And here's a suggestion: move the translate option to the top right or left corner or bottom, as these are the locations users are most used to when looking for a language translation.

Can't help the colors, they are from the original site. If you read the entire post, you will see I was able to lighten the body, without them noticing.

Quote: The only thing that really stands out here is that I’m not too crazy about the scrolling menu on the right

Yes, I’m finding a 50/50 split on that. Suggestions on how to make it easy with long pages without annoying people?

Thank you both for your input.

The only thing that really stands out here is that i'm not too crazy about the scrolling menu on the right. It might just be me, but I am a little annoyed by it. While I'm reading your main content, I scroll down to see what else it says, and I am immediately distracted by the menu scrolling down. In fact, I lost my place I while I was reading.

You do have an interesting product, however, and you do present it well.

Thanks pisstaker for the extensive review and your review as well mercesgirl and everyone’s for that matter. We had a bunch of changes implemented via the CEO's request, mainly on the home page. Added a bunch more Testimonials, Also converted download pdf’s to Html pages, due to image quality loss. Not all the Chinese is converted yet with the new changes. We are also working on new pictures for Individual products to show on mouse over 3 different pictures side by side. Example http://www.portafire.net/portafire.html

P.S. Forgot to say a new Banner as well and incorporated the logo on the right side of the banner and removed from pages except for the product pages where it changes via the product.

This is an informative website with some flaws

Homepage: It's a very niche subject for a website, but from the outset the text makes it obvious what you are promoting or specialising in.

Colour scheme is inviting.

The photo is very clear too and re-enforces the idea you are trying to sell us. Shame it is not above the fold though.

The list of benefits at the bottom of the homepage are nicely laid out, but shouldnt be out of sight like that.

The use of red for the key text works too, and the text in Chinese, wow that is hitting a massive market.

You have made it easy for people to bookmark, which is good for those who are undoubtedly browsing for ideas or product comparisons.

On the downside, I think the Portafire title text at the top is superfluous and because the Portafire graphic further down is very strong (and should be the title!) it makes your eye go up and down at the start, instead of naturally going down through the page. Unless of course the idea is to create a double-take, in which case, brilliant!

The 2 column layout for the 30" stove is a bit lost. The 2 text fonts are too similar. I would put in a border and maybe change the background a bit darker, seeing as you are trying to feature it.

The last image seems superfluous, or should be after the benefits list.

In conclusion, I have learnt about the product and I would go back to check it out.

Products page: Overall first impressions good, neat layout, informative. If you have no image, i would not include that item, but perhaps make a separate list of those products without images underneath the neat display.

Accessories page: Very sharp. I prefer the self contained one screen pages rather than scrolling for miles.

Technology Page. I didnt read all the info, but I would if I was going to buy it. Layout is neat and is easy to scan

Downloads page: i would rename Info & Specs, and when they get to the page tell the user they have to download the files

Testimonials are great, but the presentation is a bit naff, it doesnt reflect the fact that these people took the trouble to contact you and say what a worthy product you have.

Privacy is fine, nice layout. Who reads that stuff though!

I wish i had your links page. Great.

Site map is well thought out as a feature, but the presentation is a bit heavy fonted.

Contact is a big thing for users. You have the phone number at the top, which btw would benefit I think from a phone icon, also I think the contact link should be there at the top too, and be visible on every page.

Not sure about the navigation though. We are creatures of habit and I bet you will find most people arent internet savvy and expect certain things, ie nav bars at the top of a page. It is also inefficient to scroll down to move through a site.

Overall impression though is it is a good and useful site. Lots of work from you and the site works, because I now know about a product I had never heard of ten minutes ago.

I received no response so I made the banner permanent. I agree taking the bevels out and redoing the white letters, “which was driving me nuts”, made a world of difference. Also changed the 468x60 banner located on the links page to match but still need to change the banners in the download section of the PDF's.

O.K. Here's what I got

I put all embedded java script to scripts and I’m calling them via the html i.e.:

<script src="noframe.js" language="javascript" type="text/javascript"></script>

I created a .css and got rid of all tags

Which both of those alone have increased my code to content about on average 25% to 35% per page.
http://www.seochat.com/?go=1&option=com_seotools&tool=16&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.portafire.net&toolsubmit=Check+Ratio

which is a good deal for S.E.O.

Changed buttons from bevel to just text with a mouse over color change.

Also Changed banner, Not permanent but you can view here.

Original found out portafire.net

Proposed new one found at http://www.spoogenet.com/public_html/index.html

And other changes as well.

Let me know what you think. Thanks

Thanks Brooke's. That's what I thought you were saying, but I was thinking my other pages were a little long as well. Just to keep you all up to date. I'm trying to implement some of the idea's that I received at this post and if you want you can watch my progress at http://www.spoogenet.com/public_html/index.html, copy of the original and http://www.spoogenet.com/public_html/index2.html working on a remake. Thanks again all. I had no idea what I was seeing as a yellow body on my laptop looked so screwed up and pee green on a CRT. Nice catch all. Trying to move to some CSS to lower the code and get the feal of it.
