If you put the navigation down the bottom, be sure to put a link to it for the screen readers etc

Netscape 4.* is a very solid browser, I can understand why they stick with it, I probably would too if I wasn't building sites for others as well.

A lot of people don't like the bells and whistles, this includes flash, javascript and some css tricks (bold text on hover, rainbox text, whole paragraphs of text underlined on hover, table/div cells changing colour on hover, floating images ...)

There is one, but I think a lot of people would miss that. I'm not sure. The navigation is already absolutely positioned so all I needed to do was move the code down the page. It makes more sense for mobile users too.

It's funny - there were some people on the site I got the download from who were really stubborn about sticking to Netscape 4. I wonder if they're just putting up with bad site display or wondering why it's like that!

what about using a 'skip navigation' link at the top of the page hidden by 'display:none' for the newer browsers

It's my work site that I was looking at. I did manage to get 4.8 installed. The earlier installers were crashing and holding up the 4.8 installer so I think that's what happened.

It also looks like a basic page with CSS turned off, but the navigation is at the top of the code so it displays first and you can't see the change in content when you navigate around. I think I might try to move that nav code down to the bottom...

I've heard some version have problems installing, go for a later version, 4.5-4.7
I got 4.7 running on xp without any worries.

I just took a peek at your main site with 4.7 and it displays well, kinda like with css turned off on modern browser
