What you should really be asking is why you can't access the advanced stuff from the toolbar

Jeeves - have you noticed what it adds to right-click? Awesome! Under Edit Site Preferences there are some Web Developer options and Advanced Options. So you don't even have to make that toolbar visible, it's all on right click!

Actually, I think some of the advanced options aren't even in the toolbar. They have Find Page Owner via whois (nice), backward links via google, view in split screen mode (also nice) and a bunch of other stuff. Bug me not! I was looking for that last week but couldn't remember what it was called.

I SO love this! Need a heart smiley here

It certainly is something you should know about! Whether you choose it as your browser or not you should definately install it on your PC and use it for testing. It works on Linux, OS X and that other OS I forget the name of. It's also, by far, the best browser for a mobile phone or PDA.

In the words of Abhishek Reddy:

Quote: It stands head and shoulders above its chest

(Although I think he borrowed that from Clive Anderson)

Anyway, it's great, and we can't stop ranting about it. Am worried that at some point DaveyBoy is going to go mad if we carry on!

Opera is a web browser. It has many more features built-in than any other browser available. Check this thread for some more info about what Opera has to offer. It's really more of a power user's browser. You should check it out

I've had Opera for yonks, went from IE to Opera but then found Firefox.
I think the ads put me off Opera, then the dom problem (this is going back a while), and Firefox has grown on me. I do use opera to test sites and some sites that have no image save that actually works on FF I can use Opera to grab them.
The web developer bar in ff was also a good pulling tool, but as opera now has something similar ...

Heyup Busy, you giving Opera a go?

All you need to do is right-click on the link and select "Open in background tab" instead of "Open in new tab" It's the next item down. I like both and use them interchangeably without even thinking about it. Not sure if there's a way to make it behave like that by default.

I think it's a reasonable assumption that when opening a link you're going to want to view the page immediately.

*** EDIT ***
Just had a quick rummage in opera:config and couldn't find anything to change the default behavior.

On a more successful note: Middle-clicking on a link opens the tab in the background.

Like firefox does, right click open in new tab or in operas terms, open in new page - not a new window and keeping the focus on the original page.

It's only a small thing but big enough to stop me from converting over
