I am also trying to convert jpg file in to eps. After getting information from this site I am getting fully aware with it. I am trying it in CS2. It is very useful for me for my conversion.

Illustrator CS2 boast live trace which is very configurable - it gives you 16 settings you can choose from and does quite a nice job of it

Only played with inkscape on windows, but it seemed fairly stable. Bit odd to use, but didn't cause any problems.

Inkscape has a tracebitmap tool that I found a little more controllable than the one in flash. Graphics are not really my area, but I managed to get some reasonable results on it from nice contrasty bitmaps. There are a couple more tools that look like they do related stuff as well.

Shirthead - does Inkscape have a command to convert a bitmap to vector? BTW, do you know if it's stable on windoze yet? Last time I checked it was pretty buggy.

Flash has a "trace bitmap" command that does an okay job depending on what type of image it is (i.e. photos don't work well but things like logos or clipart are okay). You would have to do some tweaking from there.

if you have AI, then you can try and reconvert them to original vector and resave again to EPS, but from a raw Jpeg to EPS it would be difficult and theres no layer or vector encoding in the jpg to make it reusable as EPS...

Nothing is going to do that great a job of converting a bitmap based file to a vector one without a little tweaking. Often the best bet is to redraw. Inkscape is a free program that does a reasonable job of it though. Word of warning though - you sometimes end up with a lot of layers from it. Worth a shot.
