I've also switched from WS-FTP to Smart FTP. The main reason was because Smart FTP lets me change my timeout settings. WS-FTP kept booting me out after 30 secons or so inactive, so I kept having to re-connect all the time. Annoying.

I switched from WSFTP to SmartFTP. I believe the reason at the time was that SmartFTP did recursive directory/file deleting on Linux/Unix servers, and WSFTP did not. Not sure if WSFTP still doesn't, or if they do now.

I use CoreFTP Lite. It is a free file transfer software. You can order the files by size, but I don't think you can search for the files using a search form.

I would recommend looking into WebDrive. Its a great program that adds drives to your computer and can be mapped to ftp servers and sftp servers. You can map as many ftp's to you want and its got tons of options. I cannot recommend this program highly enough.

Most ftp programs only do a directory at a time, if you have Cpanel, or even Ensim (I think) and probably others there is 'fileman' which can do your whole site.

Have you cleared your email, your web logs (some hosts remove these, others just keep adding them), same with backups ...
