Email address can appear to be hi-jacked, but in reality they have never of been to your site, server side/ programs allow to enter a from address and this, if on a psam mailing list can often be the case. The free hosts are more often the easier targets.
The only way around this is to just one one email address from a form on your site (say your name) and direct all other email addresses in your control panel to :blackhole:

I would suggest switching to GMail. I know its cliche but it works! I never get spam and when I do I can report it as spam easily. Another thing to try is having two email addresses. One that you use for personal correspondence only and the other you use to sign up for accounts, post on forums, or just generally make public. The first address will remain spam free because spam harvesters will never see it. The second one will be loaded with spam but you won't mind because its just serving its purpose.

Or do you mean that someone is apparently using your email address to send out spam?

If you are receiving spam (just like the rest of us), just download K9 and train it to filter it out.
