CptAwesome is right. Intsall the apache, PHP and MYsql on your local computer. This will help you run PHP on your local computer. It is going to very useful because you may test all your php projects on your local computer before putting them on the web, thus saving a lot of data transfer.

If you are having trouble installing the package mentioned by CptAwesome, search for the documentation and installation steps on google or yahoo and you will find a lot of help.

Allong, sounds like you're just double clicking the .php file, that won't work because php requires an interpreter, the best idea is to get apache/php for your home computer, I am guessing windows, so http://sourceforge.net/projects/phptriad this is an installer for apache/php and mysql.

Then when you want to see the results of php scripts on your computer you can go to 127.0.0.1/path/to/file.php you'll just have to be sure to set the home directory in the apache config.

Do you have apache running? or you using IIS or whatever windows server is?

could try download a bundle (package) from somewhere like firepages.com.au (has apache, php and mysql), belive it now comes with an install file (automated), even if doesn't is very easy to do and all instructions (about 3 of them) are included.

If you don't want to go the bundle route can you give us some more details of your system specs and what you've done to date.
