Yeah it is important to get a good designer. That is what people are going to notice first. So it needs to look good. But I created something I really liked. The money will be better spent on marketing for me now.

If this logo is important then get the best designer you can afford. Remember to make money, you have to spend money. Getting the right brand is important. A good logo designer should really impress you with his/her ideas.

I have used logoworks and they are fine for small jobs, but they aren't really 'brand aware.' They're good at the art but not at interpreting the message you want to convey.

I called up some local design companies, and got a few bids. Most of the prices were around $500. Then I decided to give it another shot ($500 is a lot!) I spent another 2 hours dinking around in ImageReady and I came up with something I really liked (I think Megan would approve of it too.)

It surprised me so much I almost had a heart attack. Believe me, it's not as bad as you would expect from someone like me.

Edit: I might get it reviewed but I still have a lot of work to do on that project.

I believe if you find a talented freelancer, you could find what you want for less than 50 USD. It's all upto who you ask.

I agree definately go with a pro, it's not just the look of the logo you have to take into consideration, you also have to determine how you want the logo to be displayed and on what media. In my experience I have found that it can be beneficial to use two companies for your logo especially if you require your logo for paper media because essensially logos for print are totally different to logos using the RGB pallette.
