Mambo or Joomla, A bit hard but works...
Wordpress, can be modified to anyway you like, theres a bunch of others out there like phpnuke, etc. you could check and search out what you need at hotscripts.com

A CMS is only costly if you pay for it. There are plenty of simple CMS's that would easily suit your basic needs.

sounds gud but isnt a cms costly?
found a web host with netfusion8 and web builder included, not too dear either!
se rankings r another concern from using different methods (but i've put another post 4 that)
know gud bit of html, learing more as req not a prob.
I dont expect to have it done by next week!! (although wud b nice)

Does this mean you don't know html? You'll need to know that if you are going to delve into backend programming.

You could always use a CMS or blog engine written in PHP, so that its easy to post pics on the front while creating other pages that are actually explanations of the product linked from the main page...

thanks for that. although will have many images, its only a simple site so shouldnt take too long learning the required php for it (yeah, right)!
