angeleyz,

For what its worth, I really wanted to outsource the ecommerce management for my site, but found all the packages out there geared towards products, and I too sell a service. I looked long and hard and the only solutions I found were big expensive packages that involved a lot of customization. I eventually built a system for myself rather than trying to get a big complicated system to meet my relatively simple needs. If you do find a solution, I'd love to hear about it.

Cheers,

PHP is a server side language - HTML is client side

When you say "authenticate it" do they mean an opt in (member registers and is authenticated by confirmation) or you meaning 'authenticated' as in sercure, like HTTPS ?

If it's the first, then you really need a database to store the members details (which would be MYSQL). If your host is suggesting PHP they must support it, and no doubt offer MYSQL support. If you are unfamilar with these (as you say you are) then you would probably download a script from hotscripts.com that you should be able to run out of the box (so to speak)

Thanks but I don't need a shopping cart as I don't have products that I intend to sell as I am only selling a service at this time. And I just spoke to my hosting service and they told me that I need to get use PHP which I don't even know what he is talking about lol and yes I am totally new at this as you can see. But thanks for your suggestion anyway. Angie

angeleyz,

I just took a look at Bravenet and they do not appear to offer SSL or shopping carts, which is what you need. There are many affordable hosting packages that include a secure (SSL / HTTPS) shopping cart that you can use to process payments - I doubt you'll find one for free, however. The host will setup the certificate and get the shopping cart working for you.

I'm a do-it-yourselfer, but I'm sure many people here can recommend good hosts that provide these services out of the box.

Cheers,
Matt

bravenet .. frontpage ... Quick someone call the men in white coats ...

Serioulsy though you may need your own domain, a database to keep the members details in. you can lease secure certificates but is usually done within your host (https), the other way the person would be sent to a 3rd party (like you do when you use paypal).
