It is illegal in the US because of anti-trust laws, I believe. So unless you want to move to the UK . . . !

The fact that it's illegal has something to do with avoiding price fixing. In fact, if I were you, I'd go back and edit out the actual dollar amount you state.

I've not used it personally (yet), but I believe AgoraCart is fairly nice. I know it integrates with some popular gateways and non-gateway payment options.

That is a good idea, but why is it illegal to discuss prices? I am going to have to get back to him to and ask him to explain some of his requests more. As it is, I'm not sure what he means for a few things. But how hard is it nowadays to setup a shopping cart, and then for it to be easily managed? I have never done a shopping cart, so any suggestions of which one to use, and tips on implementing it would be greatly appreciated! I will also post in a relevant area for the shopping cart thing.

Discussing actual prices is not really legal, if I understand correctly. But at the risk of sounding obvious, just give him a time estimate and your hourly rate, but make sure he knows it's an estimate. Then, actually charge him hourly and keep him updated on how close to the estimate you are.

I wish that's how I'd done it when my partner and I started out. Early on we had to just blindly guess how long it would take. We've always charged flat fees, and that meant that early on we often took a hit.
